These woven fishing baskets are early 20th-century pieces traditionally used by river fishermen across Southeast Asia. Hand-woven from natural reeds and strengthened with layers of earthen clay, each basket carries the raw patina of decades spent near water, sun, and shore. Their bulbous silhouettes and tightly braided rims were designed to store and transport the day’s catch. Today, they read as sculptural objects. The surfaces show beautiful signs of age: weathered clay remnants, softened weaves, and irregular hand-done patterning that make each basket truly one-of-a-kind.
