WICKER SOFA

A three-seat sofa of generous, enveloping scale, the entire frame woven in natural rattan over a solid wood base raised on bun feet — the wicker running continuously across the base, arms, and full back in a tight, even weave that gives the piece its weight and warmth. The arms roll outward in a wide, unhurried gesture that defines the silhouette. Newly reupholstered in a warm terracotta linen, a fabric entirely of the moment and entirely right against the honey tone of the rattan. The combination of the two materials feels considered rather than composed. Consistent with Italian production of the period, when makers working in natural materials brought this kind of relaxed, organic confidence to interior furniture.
