TRENCHER BOWL

A hand-carved wooden trencher bowl turned from a single piece of hardwood, the interior worn smooth and dark from a century or more of daily use, the exterior retaining the marks of the tool that shaped it. The wood has deepened to a near-black tone around the base and inner walls, a patina that only comes with genuine age and handling. A small period repair to the rim, the kind of honest mending that kept a useful object in service, adds to rather than detracts from the character of the piece. Completely unadorned and entirely resolved.
