SPUN CLAY BOWL

A wide, low bowl in dark-fired stoneware by Koen Ghesquière, made at his studio in Antwerp under the name GHESQ. The exterior surface is worked with deep, irregular incised lines that crack and fracture across the body. The glaze is a rich, complex dark brown with metallic undertones that shifts in light from near-black to warm bronze. The interior is smooth and glazed; the form is generous and low, the rim slightly irregular. Ghesquière came to ceramics later in life and built one of Belgium's most respected studio practices on a simple philosophy: raw material, honest process, objects made to be used.
