SPECKLED CERAMIC VESSEL

A wheel-thrown stoneware vessel of generous, globular form, the body swelling wide before pulling up sharply to a narrow neck and a small flared rim. The glaze is a mottled olive and khaki green, speckled heavily with dark iron spots that pool and concentrate along the throwing rings left visible around the shoulder. The surface is alive with texture and variation, no two passages alike. The lower third of the body is left unglazed, the bare stoneware clay warm and sandy against the richness above. Unsigned, but entirely consistent with the serious studio pottery tradition of mid-20th century France.
