SET OF FOUR SLATTED DINING CHAIRS

A set of four solid pine side chairs of spare, uncompromising construction, each built from stained pine members joined at right angles with no curve, no taper, and no ornament of any kind. The seat is composed of horizontal pine slats; the back is a single wide rail set between two upright posts that extend above it in the manner characteristic of Dutch Brutalist furniture of the period. The dark stain has worn evenly across all four chairs, the surfaces smooth and consistent with decades of use. Collectively the set has a quiet, sculptural authority. In the tradition of Dutch makers working in solid pine during this period, where the emphasis was entirely on honest material and structural clarity.
