PRIMITIVE DOUGH BIN

A dough bin built from wide, thick planks nailed together and raised on four splayed tapered legs that give the piece an almost sculptural stance. The lift-top opens on its original iron hinge to reveal a divided interior, the two compartments worn smooth and dark from generations of use. The exterior surface has dried and silvered with age, the wood absorbing centuries of handling into a surface that is entirely its own. No ornament of any kind — only the logic of the form and the weight of its history. Used in farmhouse kitchens for dough rising and flour storage, pieces like this were worked daily and rarely survived intact.
