PINE STOOL

A solid pine stool from the Weekend series by Pierre Gautier-Delaye, produced for his publisher and collaborator Lucien Vergnères. The Weekend series was characterized by the simplicity of its line, the use of solid wood and a refined sense of detail in the junctions between elements. The seat is composed of two slatted pine planks sitting between the four square corner posts, a single stretcher running at mid-height on all four sides. The pine has warmed to a deep honey tone with age. Equally useful as a stool, a side table, or a small occasional surface. Gautier-Delaye remains one of the most quietly influential figures in post-war French furniture design.
