PAIR OF ART DECO ARMCHAIRS
A pair of Art Deco lounge chairs in solid walnut, presented in full deconstructed state, the upholstery stripped entirely to reveal the original burlap webbing, tacking strips, and the architecture of the frames beneath. The walnut is strong and unrestored, the flat open arms and rectilinear frame characteristic of French Art Deco cabinetmaking of the 1930s, spare and geometric without any of the ornament that clutters lesser examples of the period. What remains when the fabric is removed is something closer to sculpture than furniture, and the pair photograph and live exactly that way. Offered as found, sold as a pair, and primed for a buyer who knows exactly what to do with them, whether that means reupholstering in something exceptional or leaving them precisely as they are.
