PAINTED BUFFET DEUX CORPS

The upper and lower bodies are separate — made to stack but complete on their own terms. The base is solid oak with raised panel doors, original iron escutcheon hardware, and the warm grain of well-aged country furniture. Above it sits a painted cabinet of an entirely different character: reeded door fronts under a grey-blue paint that has worn almost entirely to bare wood, the interior shelves still holding their original color. The two pieces were never meant to match exactly — one formal, one vernacular — and that tension is what makes the ensemble.
