GUILLERME ET CHAMBRONE CATHERINE CHAIRS

A pair of "Catherine" lounge chairs in solid carved oak by Robert Guillerme and Jacques Chambron, produced for their company Votre Maison. The back of each chair is composed of solid oak spindles that give the piece a sculptural, graphic quality, the open construction featuring curved and diagonal lines that are characteristic of the duo's work. The sculpted armrests are carved with precision, each one shaped to the hand and visually resolved from every angle. The original woven cushions in a tonal brown check remain in place, worn and honest with age. Guillerme and Chambron met while imprisoned in a forced labor camp during the Second World War, bonding over a shared passion for design, they went on to produce more than 2,000 pieces in the second half of the 20th century. Their furniture prioritized function as much as form with no unnecessary ornamentation. Sold as a pair.
