GLOBE SOHOLM CERAMIC TABLE LAMP

A stoneware table lamp with a low, globular base in rough chamotte clay, the surface heavily textured and decorated with loosely incised spiral and circular motifs in iron oxide — the marks drawn freely, as if sketched rather than applied. The glaze is a warm sandy grey, matte and uneven, the texture of the fired clay reading almost like stone. The form is compact and grounded, the decoration gestural and entirely confident. Fitted with a white conical shade. One of the more characterful examples of Søholm's 1960s output — less decorative, more direct.
