FARMHOUSE TABLE

A small French farmhouse table in solid oak, the top constructed from two wide planks joined at center and sitting on a simply framed base with four tapered legs. The wood has warmed and darkened over two centuries of use, the surface marked with the small repairs, stains, and irregularities that accumulate from a long working life. A patch let into the top, the grain raised and softened at the edges. No ornament, no excess. The proportions are compact and entirely right, the kind of table that seats four comfortably and fits almost any room. The slight taper of the legs keeps the whole thing from feeling heavy.
