A bentwood and plywood armchair produced by Tatra Nábytok of Czechoslovakia, model A745/F, manufactured under licence from Thonet and originally designed for the Baťa industrial company in Zlín. The frame is constructed from steam-bent beech, the continuous curve of the arms flowing into the sled base in a single uninterrupted line — a structural logic that is both visually resolved and entirely honest about how the piece is made. The seat and back are formed from shaped plywood, worn and darkened with age, the grain visible through the original stain. Tatra was among the most significant furniture manufacturers of Central European modernism, producing designs that brought the Bauhaus and Functionalist ideals of the 1930s to broad institutional and domestic use. This example retains its original surface throughout — unrestored and entirely intact.
