A beautifully worn Dutch bowling ball from the late 19th century, its deep mahogany surface burnished by over a century of use. Solid, weighty, and deeply tactile — this is an object that carries the quiet authority of genuine age. The rich, lacquered finish has mellowed to a warm brown, developing the kind of patina that cannot be replicated.
Originally used in the Dutch game of kegelen, these balls were crafted from dense hardwood and turned on a lathe to near-perfect spherical form. This example is exceptionally well-preserved, with honest wear that speaks to its working life. Displayed among books, vessels, or atop furniture, it reads as sculpture.
